It's a problem akin to Monster Hunter, in which being "optimal" means you're wearing a "clown suit" (in Daemon X Machina's case, you're a walking hodgepodge of random mechanical parts slapped together). You can customize your player character, but getting upgrades affects how you look (which is off-putting to a lot of people, but didn't bother me). The overall customization of your mech is subpar compared to something like Armored Core (there are only bipedal legs to use, for example, but they come in different sizes).
There are some back weapons that are really good (including one that functions like Gundam funnels that follow your target and automatically attack for a while). Sniper rifles feel pretty weak, beam/laser rifles feel weak, and melee is somewhat unwieldy (you're forced to dash forward when you swing them, so it can be difficult to hit targets). You have to be mindful of ammo with these weapons as well, but I never ran out of ammo against colossal Immortals when using the Cannon arms (there are some arm parts that functional solely as weapons, with the caveat that they're entirely useless once they run out of ammo).Įver other handheld weapon in the game feels like a waste of time compared to the above. A flamethrower in one hand and an SMG in the other is how I dealt with the later missions against enemy pilots (although you have to be careful about running out of ammo).Ĭannons have a niche against colossal Immortals (giant bosses), in that you can destroy them quickly by targeting weak points. The main caveat is the range, but it's a small price to pay for the ability to essentially keep your enemy from escaping. Submachine guns and assault rifles are significantly more efficient than most other weapons in PvE, as they shred targets pretty quickly (especially if you use the damage boost mode of your Arsenal).įlamethrowers have a niche against other mercs, as flamethrowers constantly lower stamina of the target being fired upon (so they can't boost and easily get away from you).
